It is one of the most widely celebrated festivals in India, especially in western Maharashtra. This auspicious occasion is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm, and people prepare a lot of delicacies as well on this day. One of those important delicacies include Paal Kozhukattai or Paal Kolukattai. It is also known as Milk Kolukattai. Paal Kozhukattai is served as prasadam or bhog on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Let’s take a look at the recipe of Paal Kozhukattai.
Ingredients
1. Rice Flour- 1 Cup
2. Jaggery – 1/2 Cup
3. Coconut milk – 1/2 cup
4. Ghee – 3 tablespoons
How to make Paal Kozhukattai
1. Mix the desired amount of water to the rice flour and knead it in the form of dough. After that, keep half of the rolled dough aside.
2. In the next step, add the grated coconut and two spoons of sugar to the leftover flour, and knead it in the form of dough. Then divide the dough into small portions and roll each portion into the shape of a ball.
3. Now, place jaggery and water in a medium-sized pan and heat it on a low flame. Keep simmering and stirring occasionally until the jaggery is melted properly. Leave the mixture for some time to cool. The impurities in the mixture will settle down to the bottom of the pan while cooling. You can also filter the mixture through a sieve to remove the impurities.
4. Then add the rolled portions of the dough prepared in the second step of the recipe to the pot and boil it. These portions will be cooked in 5 minutes.
5. Mix half of the kneaded rice flour with the jaggery and stir.
6. After these steps, add cardamom powder to the mixture, and also add ghee to it. Boil it for 7 minutes on low flame, till it reaches the boiling point and gets thickened. Your prasadam is ready to serve. Wait for a couple of minutes for it to cool down and then serve it.
