One of the significant places in the house that accumulates most of the dust and is often ignored is the curtains in the room. You notice that your curtains will start to look greyish or blackish, and dull due to everyday dust after a few weeks. Sometimes, there are a few stubborn stains on them as well, which are not easy to remove.
These are often the most neglected places as removing the curtains, washing them with utmost care and putting them back on can sometimes be a challenging task. However, it is essential to make sure that you can make your curtains dust-free. Here are a few easy tips and tricks you can use to make your curtains clean-
White Vinegar
To get rid of those tough stains, people often wash their curtains in the washing machine but are still unable to remove them. For such circumstances, use white vinegar along with regular detergent with the water in the machine. Or, you can wash the stain spot with your hands first and then machine wash them. Make sure to never dry your curtains directly under the sun.
Use Plastic to Cover the Eyelets Many curtains have eyelet rings in them, which when put in the washing machine can break the rings or pose a problem for the machine. In such circumstances, tie up the eyelet rings together with a rope and then cover them with plastic. This will neither cause the ring to come apart, nor make any noises in the machine, while at the same time, it will get cleaned properly too.
Cleaning Lace and Silk Curtains
Silk and lace details on curtains can end up getting destroyed in the washing machine. But if the curtains are lightweight then you can put them in the laundry mesh bag and then throw it in the machine to get them cleaned. This way, neither the details with get destroyed and the curtains will remain clean. Another way is to wash it with your hands. Soak the curtains in water and add detergent and white vinegar to it. You can also use a mild shampoo to clean them. Your curtains will look clean and shiny.
Vacuum Cleaner
Whenever you use the vacuum cleaner to clean anything, make sure to give it a go at your curtains as well. Choose the right attachment and then clean the curtains with it. It will suck in all the dirt and dust.
Soda and Hot Water
Take a bowl of hot water and add 2 tablespoons of soda and a few drops of vinegar. Submerge a clean microfibre cloth in this solution and wring it dry. Then, use the cloth on the curtains to get rid of dust and dirt. The microfibre cloth will pick up the tiniest of dirt specks and make your curtain look clean and even smell fresh.
Dry Clean Them
If you have heavy curtains, like blackout curtains or heavy embroidery ones made of satin or polyester, you can avoid the risk of cleaning them at home and instead give them for dry cleaning.
