It is a delicious blend of toor dal and urad dal, which creates a wonderful dish – and can be served with roti or plain rice. Phanu is a blend of two different dals. Its creaminess, along with the subtle flavours of the spices, tadka and green chillies, add a whole new taste to this dish.

To make this typical Uttarakhand dish, you would need one cup of split toor dal soaked, half cup white urad dal soaked, finely chopped tomato, ginger and garlic. For spices, you will need turmeric powder and asafoetida. For the tadka, you will need finely-chopped ginger and garlic. You will also need cumin seeds, green chilli and mustard oil.

Here is a step-by-step guide to make this dish:

– To begin the procedure of making a Pahari style Phanu recipe, make sure to soak the dals for a couple of hours and keep it ready.

– Add the soaked dal into a pressure cooker along with chopped tomatoes, ginger, garlic, garlic, garlic, turmeric, powder, powder, and salt.
