Bangaram and closely located Thinnakara Islands have become tourism hotspots in Lakshadweep. As tourists get onboard fishing boats and head out, one can see vibrant hues of multi-coloured coral reefs, which is an instant feel-good factor about such scenic and pristine destinations existing in India.
Bangaram and neighboring Thinnakara have emerged as tourism gems within Lakshadweep, so much so that tourists instantly fall in love with the natural beauty of these islands. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a holiday on these picturesque islands, tourists – both domestic and international – started to throng the islands located off the coast of Kerala. There is a government-operated five-star resort on Bangaram, nestled amid uninhabited expanses that epitomize the serenity of the islands, devoid of commercial clutter and external disruptions.

Local residents often reminisce about Bangaram’s bygone days, including its erstwhile casino and resorts, which have been shuttered possibly due to connectivity challenges. Another local shared tales of Thinnakara’s etymology with PTI and retraced its origin to a historical narrative of survival and sustenance.
Echoing ancestral lore, he recounted the legend of a centuries-old shipwreck near Bangaram, now a snorkeling haven. He marvels at the evolving seascape, where remnants once distant now beckon tantalizingly close, offering a unique underwater walkway through time.

Another tourist, said that she was compelled to return after years, and honeymooners Swapnil and Jyothi, were simply amazed by the islands’ allure.
Yet, the islands’ potential remains in its untappedlocations and connectivity expansion. With the ongoing legal disputes over proposed resort expansions, the future of tourism in Bangaram hangs in the balance.
Accessible within a mere 45-minute boat ride from Agatti, the gateway to Lakshadweep, Bangaram and Thinnakara beckon adventurers and tranquility seekers, promising a journey beyond the ordinary amidst nature’s untouched bounty.
