Every freaking cold drop of water will be splashing while you are passing the falls via train. The picturesque falls have owned their beauty from nature and are incorporated with a vivacious ambience. Dudhsagar Waterfalls is located on the Eastern side of the state in Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary amongst the Western Ghats towards a town named Collem or Kulem. Yet another interesting fact that you might not be aware of, Dudhsagar Waterfall forms the border between Karnataka and Goa states and is located in the middle of the dense forest area. The falls are considered one of India’s tallest waterfalls and it falls from the height of 1020 feet and is approximately 100 feet wide. It will have a peak flow in the monsoon season i.e. from June to September whereas it forms a huge force of water when the waterfall is rain-fed i.e. from March to June.

There are two viewpoints to have a spectacular view of the waterfall and let’s check out the two points over here.

DUDHSAGAR RAIL BRIDGE:

So, you can go on the Dudhsagar rail bridge, where you will get a clear and zoomed-in view of the fall. Here the part of the falls will be above you and other parts will be below which flows behind the bridge. You would also get a view of the falls for a few seconds if you are travelling towards Madgaon in Goa. Passenger trains generally do not stop at Dudhsagar railway junction.

DUDHSAGAR FALLS BASE:

You can walk to the base of the waterfall and you will be able to view the whole falls from top to bottom. It is at this point where the Dudhsagar River starts and you can even have a relaxing swim here if the water flow is not too forceful. So, you need to enter a gate that says Dudhsagar Waterfall and you could find the viewpoint over here. After this particular viewpoint, you must have to cross a few water streams to reach the base of the falls. And if you wish you can have both views by going on the bridge or going to the base if you are seeking nature’s beauty regardless of energy and time.

MYTH BEHIND THE WATERFALLS:

Of course, India is bounded by myth and here is a myth behind the Dudhsagar Waterfalls. There is an old legend that centres around the name of the falls. The tale goes that there lived a princess who was the daughter of the King of the Ghats. This gorgeous Princess was as modest as she was looking and also hold firm in purity of heart, mind, and body. She used to take a bath in the lake near her father’s castle every day. After her bath, she and her handmaidens would rendezvous on the shores of the lake while the Princess consumed a jug of milk. However, one day, as the princess was drinking her milk, a young and handsome prince was making his way through the woods. He heard the chatter and laughter of ladies and so he stopped to have a look. Meanwhile, the Princess was remorseful of her bathing attire and so her maidens poured the milk in a cascade in front of her thus creating a curtain behind which she could put on her clothes. And it is this cascade of milk which preserved the modesty of the Princess is turned out to be the name of the Dudhsagar falls.
