5 Home Remedies To Get Rid Of Dry Skin In Winter

The winter season is here. This is the time to indulge in festivities and embark on holidays. As the chilly embrace engulfs us, we find joy in the cosiness of blankets, sipping on a cup of warm beverage and binge-watching our favourite shows. But along with the good things, winters also come with an array of problems — particularly skin and hair issues. Dryness is one of the major skin woes many face in the cold season. The chilly air often strips moisture from our skin, leaving it flaky and dry. It can sometimes be accompanied by itching as well. Hydration and a good skin care regimen can alleviate these problems. Here are five home remedies to battle dry skin in winter.

Warm Water Bath

It might be tempting to take long and hot showers in winter. But it can strip your skin of moisture and necessary oils causing further damage. So, it is recommended that you take short showers during the cold months and bathe in lukewarm water. Remember to use a gentle soap that is not harsh on your skin.

Moisturise with coconut water

Coconut oil is a natural emollient that helps retain moisture and repair the skin barrier. You can apply coconut oil after a shower to lock in hydration, when the skin is still slightly damp. Its antibacterial properties also help protect the skin from infections caused by dryness.

Honey and Milk Mask

Honey and milk can do wonders for you. They can be combined to gently exfoliate and moisturise the skin, offering a supple and soft feel. Gently massage them into the skin to improve blood circulation. You will be amazed by the radiant glow afterward.

Oatmeal Bath

To soothe skin irritation and replenish moisture, all you have to do is add a cup of finely ground oatmeal to a warm bath. Oatmeal is loaded with anti-inflammatory properties which can significantly reduce itchiness and redness, induced by dryness. After showering, pat the skin dry and apply a gentle moisturiser to seal in hydration.

Rose Water and glycerin

Another easy home remedy is to mix rose water and glycerin, creating an all-natural toner. Dab it on your skin before going to bed to keep it hydrated overnight. For fissures on hands and feet, this glycerin and rose water are wonder drugs.
