5 Tips To Keep Dough Fresh When Refrigerated For Long

In many desi households, after kneading the flour into a dough, it is then stored in the refrigerator. All one has to do is, take it out of the fridge, divide it into small balls and roll it out into rotis or parathas. Many people, who store the dough in the fridge, have noticed that it turns black and smelly. So, what can be done to prevent the flour from turning greyish-black? If you want to keep your dough fresh for a longer time in the refrigerator without wanting it to smell funny or turn blackish, then there are a few important things one must keep in mind. Incorporate these simple tips to keep your kneaded dough fresh.

  • Store flour in an air-tight container.

  • While kneading the flour, add a spoonful of oil or ghee to it. While storing it in the fridge, apply oil/ghee on the outer surface. By doing this, the dough will not get oxidised and will remain fresh for a long time. The oil will also prevent the dough from drying out.

  • Make sure to store the dough in an airtight container. This will prevent the dough from coming in contact with the air and moisture in the fridge, and not change colour.

  • You can also use a cling wrap to store your dough. A zip-lock pouch or Tupperware can also be ideal.

  • Make sure that your fridge is set at the right temperature, while storing the dough. A temperature of 2-4 degrees celsius is right for storing a dough. If the temperature is higher, the dough will get spoiled quickly.

If you follow these simple tips and tricks to store the kneaded dough properly, you will be able to keep it fresh for more than 24 hours. This way you will not have to make the dough every day and will save you enough time.
