Ingredients required
• 1 cup rice
• ½ cup split black urad dal with skins
• 10 cloves of garlic
• 1 tsp fenugreek seeds (Methi / Vendayam)
• 5 cups water
• 1 tsp dry ginger powder (Chukku Podi)
• Salt to taste
• ½ cup finely grated coconut
• 500 ml / ½ liter boiled milk
Steps to make this recipe
1) Prepare all the ingredients and warm a small pressure cooker.
2) Briefly dry roast black gram (ulundhu) for a minute.
3) Add 2 & ½ cups of water, along with washed rice, fenugreek seeds (if desired), and garlic.
4) Pressure cook on a medium flame for 5 whistles.
5) After cooking, mash the mixture and adjust the consistency by adding water or milk. Incorporate the necessary salt, and grated coconut, and mix thoroughly.
6) Reheat and bring to a boil, then turn off the flame.
7) Serve the porridge warm or hot – it boasts a delightful aroma and taste, especially with the combination of garlic (poondu) and coconut.
