7 Simple Tips To Delay Premature Hair Greying

Spotting grey hair out of nowhere can be both embarrassing and frustrating. While some people don’t see silver strands until they reach a certain age, others start dealing with premature greying before turning 20, often resorting to various hair dyes.

Have you ever wondered what might be causing Premature Greying of Hair (PGH)? In an interaction with WebMD, Dermatologist Jeffrey Benabio, MD, from Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, explains, “Hair goes gray when colour-producing cells stop producing pigment.

“Typically, white people start going gray in their mid-30s, Asian people in their late 30s, and Black people in their mid-40s. Half of all people have a significant amount of gray hair by the time they turn 50. A white person is considered to be prematurely gray if their hair turns gray by age 20. Going gray before 30 is early for Black people,” claims WebMD.

Here are seven simple tips to help delay premature greying:

  1. Before going to bed, do a hair champi (head massage) with coconut oil and wash it off the next morning.
  2. Ensure you get enough hair vitamins, such as B vitamins (especially B-12 and biotin), vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin A.
  3. Stop smoking, as it can shrink your hair follicles and contribute to premature greying.
  4. Protect your hair from the sun by covering it with a hat or scarf when outdoors.
  5. Massage your hair and scalp with pure ghee once or twice a week.
  6. Make sure to get enough minerals in your diet, including zinc, iron, magnesium, selenium, and copper.
  7. Use gentle shampoos and conditioners that are free from harsh chemicals.

Implementing these tips can help slow down the greying process and keep your hair looking youthful and vibrant for longer.
