Tips to Maintain your Children’s Eyesight

From packing their school bags in the morning to tucking them into bed at night, you do everything possible to keep your child healthy and safe. As children love to watch television and play computer games. It is important to keep a check on their eyesight. The proper development of eyesight is extremely important for your child in order to grow into a healthy individual. However, the reasons for an improper development could be many. At each stage of your child’s life, it is important for a parent to monitor the development of their child’s vision. In case of slightest suspicion, you must not hesitate to pay a visit to the pediatrician.

But why wait for condition to reach an alarming level? Following are some tips that will help you ensure proper development of your child’s eyesight.

For 0-4 Month Old Babies

If your child is between 0-4 months old, make sure that the lights of their room are not too bright. Change the direction of your child’s cot if it receives direct light and keep electronic devices like mobile phones at least 8-12 inches away from the baby.

For 5-8 Months Old

Dangling a toy over your child’s cot is recommended for better vision. Besides, improving their vision this will also help developing synchronization between the movement of hands and legs. Also, you must let your child spend some time outdoors. Doing this will let them watch things happening around and they might also learn to grab objects.

Diet for Healthy Eyes

One of the best ways to ensure healthy eyesight in your child is to take care of their diet. Following is a list of several foods, which must be included in your child’s diet for a stronger vision.

Leafy Green Vegetables

Green vegetables are loaded with lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidants known to reduce risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.

Eggs

The yolk of an egg is rich in lutein, zeaxanthin and zinc which can lower risk of macular degeneration and cataracts in later stages of life.

Citrus and Berries

Vitamin C can be found in abundance in citrus and berries. Studies have shown that this essential vitamin can dramatically reduce risk of  macular degeneration and cataracts.

Almonds

Research shows that the richness of vitamin E in almonds and a regular consumption of almonds can slow down development of macular degeneration. Only a handful of almonds fulfils almost half of your daily requirement of vitamin E.
