What to do When You are Emotionally High?

You may not know what to do when you are emotionally high. Emotions can be difficult to deal with in many situations. And most people don’t consider what they should do when they’re feeling a little more intense than usual.

For example, you may feel upset with someone on a regular basis, but you may have observed your anger spiralling out of control. And when that happens, you’re likely to do or say something you don’t truly mean. This is a frequent but significant issue that practically everyone faces. So, if you’re wondering what to do when you’re emotionally high, keep reading to the bottom.

What to do when you are feeling highly emotional?

Name your emotions

Identifying your current feelings before acting on them is the best approach to keep yourself from doing anything you don’t want to do. It’s a simple thing you may do if you notice yourself becoming overly emotional. Take a minute to reflect and ask yourself some questions.

* What am I feeling? – Name your emotion, such as anger, fear, or disappointment.
* What is causing this reaction in me? – Determine why you are having this feeling.
* Is it vital to take action right now? – Consider whether the individual who made you feel this way had a purpose for doing so.
* What actions do I wish to take in response to this feeling? – You may want to yell at someone or toss things on your desk to get your frustrations out.
* What is a better method to deal with this emotion without causing harm to others? – You can go outdoors for some fresh air, inquire whether the individual who made you feel this way is okay, and so on.

This way, you have control over how you react to your emotions. And you’re dealing with them rather than ignoring them.

Learn to accept your feelings

This is clearly something that everyone must do. It is critical to acknowledge and accept all of your feelings rather than suppress them. For example, you may feel as if you’re about to cry as a result of something someone said to you. When you don’t want to cry, you can distract yourself by saying things like “What they said isn’t a big deal” or “You’re overreacting, so stop making a big deal out of it.”

If you don’t tell yourself those things, perhaps someone else will. In either case, that is not a healthy approach to deal with your emotions. It occurs as a result of a certain experience, and by saying those things, you or others are rejecting your experience as a result of it. It was significant enough for you to have that reaction or experience that level of emotion. And you should always acknowledge and accept this. You can figure out how to deal with them later, or by doing the things listed above.

Try a healthy coping skill

There are numerous approaches you can take to deal with your emotions. A healthy coping strategy can ensure that you are dealing with your emotional health in a more positive manner. Some people, for example, enjoy working out when they are feeling down. Some others prefer simply going for a stroll or run to enjoy some fresh air. Many people like to take a bath to ensure that they are coping with their emotions in a more relaxing manner. Some people also enjoy listening to music, cooking or eating their favourite meals to improve their mood.

All of these practices help ensure that you act on your sentiments rather than ignoring them totally. Plus, you get to have a hobby that makes you and your body feel good without having to put in a lot of effort.

Moreover, keep in mind that being an emotional person is not a bad thing. It is very normal to become emotional over minor events, such as watching your child go to school or becoming furious over something unfair in society. Those feelings should not be hidden from others. And keeping it hidden from others does not make you a bad person.

If you want to ensure that you deal with them properly, you can consult with a therapist. And this is nothing to be ashamed of.
