Ingredients You’ll Need:

1 cup of Dalia

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1/2 teaspoon ginger paste

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1/4 cup of green peas

1/2 cup soaked moong dal (split green gram)

2 teaspoons ghee (clarified butter)

1 pinch of asafoetida (hing)

1 chopped tomato

1 grated carrot

4 cups of water

Salt to taste

Let’s Get Cooking:

Step 1: Begin by toasting the dalia in a pan. Heat a teaspoon of ghee in a pan and add the dalia. Roast it for 2-3 minutes until you can smell its nutty aroma.

Step 2: In a pressure cooker, add a spoon of ghee and let it heat. Add cumin seeds and allow them to crackle for a minute. Next, add the asafoetida and ginger paste, and sauté briefly. Add the chopped tomatoes, mix well, and cook until the tomatoes turn soft.

Step 3: Now, add the green peas, grated carrots, turmeric, and salt according to your taste into the cooker. Mix thoroughly and cook for about 2 minutes. Once everything is nicely cooked, add the soaked moong dal and water. Give it a good stir, close the lid of the pressure cooker, and cook for 3 whistles.

Step 4: Your flavorful and nutritious vegetable dalia is now ready to be enjoyed. Serve this wholesome porridge with some yoghurt, pickles, or a side salad, and relish a hearty meal. Besides its delicious taste, this porridge is known for its digestive benefits.
