Walking is an easy way to improve and maintain overall health. Walking, just for 30 minutes, can increase cardiovascular fitness and strengthen bones. It can have numerous other benefits as well, only when done in the right manner. There are some common mistakes that you make while walking. Due to this, they are not able to experience all the benefits of this physical activity. This space articulates the mistakes committed while walking that should be avoided:

1. Location and timing– One of the most common mistakes committed by you while walking is not observing the location and timing. You receive abundant natural light when you walk outdoors in comparison to walking indoors. You should also ensure the safety of the place where you are having a walk. For example, it is not advisable to go to places congested by heavy traffic. People should also not go for a walk outside at 07:00 am because the pollution levels peak at this time.

2. Not being careful of the attire– People should wear clothes and shoes that make them feel comfortable while walking. Being comfortable while you walk impacts your distance, speed, and endurance. The shoes that people wear should be lightweight and supportive.

3. Pre and Post jogging beverages– You should drink water 15 to 20 minutes before going for a walk. Consuming too much water can harm your body and walking as well. It disturbs the water-salt balance or the osmoregulation. It is also advised to not engage in any activity post-walking and give your body ample rest as well.

4. Not maintaining appropriate posture while walking– Not having a proper posture while walking can lead to problems like back, knee and leg pain. You need to make sure that your spine and jaws are straight while walking. Do not walk in a hunch-back way as it can put stress on your muscles. It also affects your ability to breathe and also acts as a barrier to the oxygen from entering the lungs.

5. Taking long steps– While walking, try to take small steps as much as possible. Covering the distance with long steps can hurt the knees.
