Dosa is a popular South Indian dish that is made from fermented batter of rice and black lentils. It is a versatile dish that can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This dish holds a significant cultural and culinary importance in South Indian cuisine. Apart from its cultural importance, Dosa is also a good source of carbohydrates, proteins and dietary fibre. It also contains vitamins, especially vitamin B and minerals like iron, calcium and potassium. They are a good source of energy. Most of the people in India have tried the traditional dosa recipe, which is now available at every restaurant and stalls. Have you ever tried Tomato Dosa? It is a unique South Indian Dosa recipe. In this, the batter of the dosa is mixed with tomato puree and urad dal. This breakfast meal is loved by people of all ages. The tangy flavour of tomatoes elevates the taste of this dish. The ingredients which are required to make this dish are rice, urad dal, tomatoes, coriander seeds and refined oil.
This easy-to-make recipe is said to be prepared in 20 minutes. The process of preparing this dish requires the same process as the traditional dosa recipe. The only difference is the inclusion of tomatoes in it.
To prepare this delicious dosa, take two bowls of water. Now soak rice and dal in them separately for 3 – 4 hours. You can also cover the bowl to keep it safe from dust and other impurities. Now, in a mixer, grind the rice, urad dal and coriander seeds. After grinding them properly, add the chopped tomatoes and red chillies to it. Grind it again to obtain a smooth batter.
Now, transfer the batter to a large bowl and add salt, as per your taste. You can also avoid salt if you have problems like high blood pressure. Now, keep the bowl aside for 30-45 minutes. Next, heat a tawa over a medium flame and pour a ladleful of the batter on it. Spread it outwards using a ladle. You can use a small bowl for the same process. Apply oil around the edges and flip it to cook from both sides. Make sure that the flame is medium and the dosa is neither undercooked or over cooked. You can serve it with a coconut chutney.
