Diabetes is a very common disease in today’s times. It occurs when the blood sugar level exceeds the normal level. Glucose helps insulin, the hormone secreted from the pancreas, to reach the cells to energise the body. Diabetes highly affects the kidneys, eyes, nerves and heart. A diabetic patient is also prone to the risk of getting cancer. Taking proper medications can lower the risk of developing other health issues due to diabetes.
Proper nutrition and physical exercise can be very helpful for a diabetic person. Following a planned meal system and proper physical activity keeps the blood sugar within normal limits. To maintain the balance one has to balance the eating and drinking habits. A diabetic person should first consult a doctor, take proper medication and eat according to diet plans to stay fit and healthy avoiding the other health issues that may affect a human being.
A diabetic person should avoid fatty food items like cheese, cream and whole milk. The items contain a high percentage of saturated fat that can negatively affect the body. Consuming too much of such items can increase LDA (bad) cholesterol levels. Such a person is also advised to avoid fried snacks, cakes and sweet food items as they possess trans fat.
Intake of alcohol can also negatively affect a diabetic patient. While drinking alcohol, the liver stops releasing glucose as the organ starts processing the alcohol. As a result, the sugar level in the body drops. If a person intakes insulin or diabetes medicine the blood sugar level can seriously drop.
Intake of fried food items should also be avoided by a diabetic person. The oil contains a massive amount of saturated fat which is already a known bad thing for a person suffering from diabetes. Anything deep-fried loses its nutritional value.
A person suffering from diabetes is also suggested to avoid sweet drinkables like juice, sugar in tea or coffee, etc. While some diet drinks use alternatives of sugar, those are also not safe and it’s best to avoid such items.
