In the wake of the second wave of COVID-19 which has hit the state of Maharashtra, the makers of Akshay Kumar’s cop drama, Sooryavanshi, have announced that the film will not release on April 30 as was announced previously. This comes in the wake of Kumar’s diagnosis and hospitalisation due to COVID-19. Many celebrities have tested positive for the virus recently including Kartik Aaryan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt and Bhumi Pednekar.
“The Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Uddhav Thackeray had a discussion with director Rohit Shetty yesterday. In the meeting, Mr Uddhav Thackeray appreciated Rohit Shetty as he took the brave and difficult decision of postponing Sooryavanshi owing to the current COVID situation in the state,” the makers of the film said in a statement.
Sooryavanshi was initially slated to release in Diwali last year but was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
