How This Vegetable Can Help You Save From Burnt Rice Smell

Rice, a dietary cornerstone in Indian households, often takes centre stage in daily meals, gracing tables in various forms like biryani and pulao. Yet, the occasional kitchen mishap of burnt rice can be an unwelcome surprise, particularly when playing host. Fear not, for a straightforward kitchen hack involving onions can come to the rescue, effectively banishing the burnt smell and salvaging the meal.

Quick Fix for Burnt Rice:

Encountering burnt rice in your pot or catching a whiff of that undesirable burnt odour? Fret not, as a quick remedy involves the use of onions. Here’s a step-by-step guide to eliminate the burnt smell:

Take a medium-sized onion and cut it into four pieces, including the peel.

Strategically place these onion pieces in the corners of the rice vessel.

Close the lid of the cooker or pot and allow it to sit for 10 to 15 minutes.

Upon opening the lid, the burnt smell should have dissipated, thanks to the onions effectively absorbing the unpleasant odour.

Additional Tips:

Ghee and Cumin Tempering: For an alternative approach, consider tempering the rice with ghee and cumin. This not only diminishes the burnt smell but also imparts a delightful aroma to the rice.

Garlic Infusion: Garlic enthusiasts can add 2 to 3 cloves of garlic to a tablespoon of ghee. Whether whole, mashed, or finely chopped, temper the garlic in the rice for 2 to 3 minutes, covering it to allow the aroma to enhance the dish and neutralize the burnt odour.
