How to Deal with an Uncommitted Relationship

Whether it is you who is not ready for commitment or your partner, such a situation can be quite difficult for you. The emotional disturbances and sense of insecurity is not easy to deal with. If it is you who is uncommitted, the trouble can be much the same as you labour under the guilt of keeping your partner expectant.

Moreover, quite often many relationships that people who feel they are committed are actually uncommitted. So, how should you decide whether you are in a committed or uncommitted relationship? Although there is no hard and fast rule for this, commitment in a relationship can be said to have three components. These include unwavering intent to continue in a relationship with a person in particular, willingness to do whatever it takes to make the valued relationship last and easily observable happiness or at least a sense of satisfaction in the actions and behaviour of the partners.

It is important to first of all be sure that yours is indeed a committed relationship as otherwise you might need some clarifications on the perspective of life.

In order to handle your uncommitted relationship, the following tips can be very effective:

If your partner wants just the good part of your relationship without the responsibility, you need to think about whether that is acceptable or not. Know that you have everything to lose here.

You would do well to avoid sex altogether in an uncommitted relationship. It is far too much trouble with the risks of STD and/or unwanted pregnancy!

If you are sharing financial matters, it is important that each one’s responsibilities are jotted down on paper. It would be prudent to sign an agreement about the responsibilities of paying bills. Also, never make the mistake of having a joint account in an uncommitted relationship and keep the information such as passwords secret. No need to risk getting robbed!

It is important that you do not bring your life to a standstill because of the relationship. Go out and meet friends and have a hobby. But make sure you spend quality time with your partner as well. In other words, it should be fun for both of you and should be actually relaxing. Do not push your partner into doing things and do not allow him or her to push you. In either of the cases, the relationship is not going to last.
