Is Your Child Always On The Phone? How To Regulate Their Screen Time

Children tend to spend most of their free time on gadgets like smartphones, tablets and laptops these days. It is important for parents to be aware of the side effects of such unsupervised usage, which leads to increased screen time. It can prove to be very harmful for children in the long run. Let us take a look at some tips, which can be used to reduce children’s screen time.

Parents should try to avoid using gadgets in front of their children. Children tend to imitate or do the same thing they witness their parents do. So, if a parent is using their phones in front of their child, they would want to get involved in doing so as well. Especially when your child is studying, avoid using any type of gadget in front of them. You can use your device when kids are not around.

Do not give your children mobile phones or tablets. A parent must not give their child a gadget as a gift before adolescence. When kids see others their age using these electronic devices, they demand the same thing from their parents. Giving these gadgets early to your kids could distract them from their studies. It is better to expose them to electronic devices when the time is right.

Make your children engage in outdoor activities. Parents should encourage their children to play outside. This is good for their physical, as well as mental health.

Decide the time of the usage. Parents must fix a time for when and how much a child should use a phone. As per reports, if a child uses a phone 4 hours per day, it could have an effect on their eyesight. Children under 10 should not be given a phone for more than one hour or two hours at most.

Parental Control. A parent should know what their child is surfing online. They could stumble upon certain things which should not be seen by them.

A time should be fixed within a day when it is prohibited to use gadgets, and family members should simply engage in talking and communicating with each other.
