Mullangi Kootu Recipe: This Healthy And Light Meal Is A Must-try This Summer

Eating vegetables during summer is very important, especially water-based ones. They help us stay hydrated. Today, we will take a look at Mullangi Kootu or Radish Kootu, which is a very famous dish in Tamil Nadu. In some places, the temperature has touched 45 degrees Celsius. Some states are even experiencing intense heat waves. During this time, it is very important to eat light food with lots of vegetables. Eating too much junk food can cause several problems including gastric problems, heart issues and many more. Spicy and oily food makes our body more hot resulting in such illnesses. Mullangi Kootu is one such light food preparation that will help you to stay fit this summer.  Let us look at its recipe:

First, we look at the ingredients we need to prepare this tasty preparation:

Radish – 2 kg

Big onion – 1

Raw tomato – 2

Curry leaves – as per requirement

Turmeric powder – 1/4 spoon

Chilli powder – to taste

Salt – to taste

Moong dal – 1/2 cup

Oil – 1 tablespoon

Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon

Cumin seeds – 1/4 teaspoon

Let’s look at the process of cooking the dish.

  1. First, wash the moong dal in clear water for around two to three times and leave it to dry. The water should be soaked out properly.

  2. As the dal takes time to get dry, remove the skin of the Radish and chop it into small pieces. Chop onions and tomatoes according to your preference.

  3. Now take a cooker and heat it properly. After heating, add oil. Once the oil is heated add the soaked moong dal, the chopped Radish, onion and tomato.

  4. Then add the spices like turmeric powder, Chilli powder and salt according to your taste.

  5. Mix them well until the radish gets blended well with the dal.

  6. Then add the required amount of water and let it boil on medium flame until the cooker sounds two whistles .

  7. While it gets boiled properly, grind mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves together and put them in heated oil in another oven.

  8. Mix the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves with the oil.

  9. Finally, add the mixture to the Radish Kootu and mix them well.

Your tasty Radish Kootu is ready to be served with chapati or roti.
