Summer Skincare: Time To Start Preparing Your Skin for the Summer Sun

As we bid adieu to long chilly, foggy winters and step into spring walking towards summers, our skin is also expected to go through a transition. Accordingly, the skincare needs to be tweaked.

With spring and summer, the weather tends to be less dry, and skin is expected to be better hydrated. Therefore, from hydrating cleansers, one can make a shift to foamy one. Instead of thick creamy moisturizers, water-based ones would be better suited. People with oily skin should opt for gel-based ones and not skip moisturizing the skin.

  1. Sunscreen usage will get even more important in the strong summer sun. Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF 30 would serve the purpose.Make a point to reapply the sunscreen every 3 hourly if outdoors.
  2. Make up can be kept to minimum with lesser layering to prevent clogging of pores and breakouts on face.
  3. With increasing outdoor activities, even the scalp tends to get greasy and oily sooner. Therefore, scalp wash is encouraged thrice a week to prevent dandruff and build up. Once a week clarifying shampoo can be used in case of heavy scalp build up.
  4. Since summers and sweating go hand in hand, increased sweating may lead to sweat rash or prickly heat aka miliaria. Therefore, switch to cotton and breathable fabrics and ensure to keep the sweaty areas cool and dry. Prickly heat powders can be used to tackle the rash.
  5. For individuals susceptible to fungal infection over skin folds, using antifungal powders is a preventive step. However, once infection sets in, a dermatologist should be consulted.
  6. Lastly, general measures to ensure hygiene, hydration, drinking plenty of fluids, eating fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, remain the basic yet essential step of summer health and skin care.
