Try Spice-infused Diwali Kashayam To Deal With Indigestion This Festive Season

The entire country was buzzing with excitement as people celebrated Diwali on Sunday with much enthusiasm and pomp. From exchanging gifts to hosting extravagant feasts at home, people have been gorging on sweets or oily and salty foods during the festive season. This may lead to indigestion. If you are looking forward to getting rid of digestive issues, then you should have Diwali Kashayam.

Diwali Kashayam is a concoction of ingredients that are easily available in the kitchen or pantry and help with the detoxification of the body. It helps in flushing out the toxins and aids in digestion. This potion can be prepared with the ingredients available in the home kitchen.

To make Diwali Kashayam, you require half a teaspoon each of black pepper powder, dry ginger powder, turmeric powder, liquorice, carom seeds (ajwain), Cumin (jeera) Fennel Seeds (Saunf), Coriander Seeds (dhania), a tablespoon of jaggery (gur) and a glass of water.

Here Is How You Make Diwali Kashayam-

  • Boil a glass of water in a pot. To it, add pepper powder, dry ginger powder, turmeric powder and liquorice.
  • While the powder boils along with the water, dry all the seeds like cumin (jeera), carrom seeds (ajwain), fennel (saunf) and coriander (dhania) then add them to the water.
  • In a small bowl, dissolve jaggery (gur) with a tablespoon of water and then strain it.
  • Keep boiling the water till it reduces by half. Add jaggery to it.
  • Strain the final concoction and strain it. Your Diwali Kashayam is ready.

In case you do not have dry ginger powder, you can easily use fresh ginger by grounding it. Also, it is better if you can ground black pepper at home as it will have more flavour and aroma than the ground pepper sold in the market. If you do not have jaggery, strain the hot brew and add a teaspoon of honey for some sweetness. You can also add flavourful and aromatic spices like nutmeg, cloves and cardamom as well. You can skip liquorice in the recipe if you do not have it.

It is important to note to not drink Diwali Kashayam when it is hot as it can cause hiccups. Also, avoid drinking water for at least half an hour after drinking this spice-infused drink.
