Sexual education is still considered taboo in many places and due to this, people tend to be less vocal about the sex-related problems faced by them. One of them is vaginal bleeding after sex in which other parts of the genitals and the reproductive system can also be involved.
Many women are apprehensive to talk about this issue and refrain from visiting the doctors even after they experience a lot of pain and discomfort. It is essential to know the causes of this problem and then take medical advice accordingly.
Causes of bleeding after intercourse:
1. Vaginal dryness causes pain and discomfort in the vagina, especially during sex if the lubricant has not been used. A dry vagina may also lead to burning and itching. Bleeding after sex is due to your vaginal wall tissues breaking open.
2. A prolonged yeast infection might lead to bleeding from the frequent irritation of the vagina. Yeast and sexually transmitted infections can lead to inflammation and bleeding into the genital tissue.
3. Cervical Ectropion is another reason for bleeding post intercourse. Cervical ectropion is a condition in which cells inside the cervix develop on its outside and form a red, inflamed patch. It can lead to irregular bleeding. According to a report published by the National Institutes of Health, 5 to 25 per cent of women suffer from this problem.
4. Cervical cancer can also be a reason for the vaginal bleeding after sex. In most cases, vaginal bleeding is the first noticeable symptom of cervical cancer and it usually occurs after having sex. In most cases, noticeable signs such as unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge happen only after the tumour has advanced and invaded nearby tissues.
Tests
The first thing a woman should do after she suffers from bleeding is to get herself examined with tests like a Pelvic Exam, ultrasound, and other tests based on the individual’s preference.
