What Happens When You Keep A Clove Of Garlic Under The Pillow

Garlic is one of the most used cooking ingredients. Its strong aroma adds a delicious flavour to any recipe it is added to. Many fictitious tales have often framed the perspective that keeping a clove of garlic under the pillow will keep the vampires at bay. But, possibly, there was a scientific reason.

Garlic contains several nutrients, including vitamins B6, thiamin, pantothenic acid, and Vitamin C and also has minerals like manganese, phosphorus, calcium, iron and zinc. From repelling mosquitoes and bugs, and making your breath smell better to being good for the joints and preventing cold and cough, it has many health benefits. But, another speciality of a clove of garlic is it can help with those suffering from insomnia.

Garlic contains vitamins B1 and B6 that help in the secretion of melatonin, which calms the nerves and helps falling asleep faster. It also contains allicin, an anti-toxin that helps in clearing blocked noses and keeps bacterial infections away. So, keeping a clove of garlic was recommended for a tranquil sleep.

As per ancient remedies, a clove of garlic under the pillow will improve sleep and any sleep disorders. Well, it is because of the presence of sulphur in garlic, which is the reason behind its strong and pungent smell. This smell is believed to help in inducing sleeping and have a calming effect on the body. It can also improve the quality of your sleep.

However, if you are not a huge fan of garlic, you can consider making a drink with garlic and won’t have to deal with the strong smell. It will help you sleep better and you might wake up feeling fresh and more energetic than before. To make this bedtime drink, take a small pan and add a clove of garlic to it by smashing it.

Then add a glass of milk. You can add any sweetening ingredient of your choice like sugar, honey, maple syrup, jaggery or stevia. As soon as the mixture begins to boil, turn off the flame, transfer it to a glass and add a pinch of black pepper. Mix it properly and you can either drink it warm or cold right before you hit the bed.
